For our second meeting, Dr. Ejaz introduced the idea of facial recognition to unlock the front door of a home. We discussed using signal processing to open and close the door. It would send a signal to lock and unlock the door. It would be highly computer-based project.

With Dr. Ejaz, we continued to discuss how to implement both a garage door entry system and front door entry system with facial recognition. Decided the facial recognition entry system for the front door would be more feasible and useful. We all agreed that security may be an issue.

Issues to resolve:

Where is the processing done?

If using a micro-controller, which micro-controller to use?

How to physically lock and unlock the door?

How to inform user of a low battery?

Can an app within your smartphone assist?

Create a flowchart to connect all features.

Meet with Dr, Ejaz and presented first draft of block diagram. We refined diagram to use a rechargeable battery with a solar charging option. We decided Raspberry Pi is the main option for the micro-controller and a current lock on the market should be used for the locking and unlocking mechanism. We also included an option for remote access to unlock from your smartphone.
